Next, what on earth were we going to do here? Skiing? Paragliding? Hiking? Yodeling? All of the above? And if, I did in fact, want to find a nice place to get Lederhosen and an Alphorn and then trek to a scenic location to let out a good jodel, where would be the best place to do that? While these were purely hypothetical, of course, these were still questions I needed to answer. So naturally, we went to Grindelwald’s swimming pool.

Snowdrift, Jungfrau ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Mighty Jungfrau, for which this region of Switzerland takes its name, is whipped by strong winds early in the morning. The winds from my view point-- 2,000 ft below the summit-- were strong enough that they almost blew a few elderly tourists over. But besides the wind, there was nothing. No cars passing in the distance, no planes flying overhead, not even the beating of a bird's wings. It was pure silence. This incredible void of sound is my favorite part about the Alps, and something I've never experienced elsewhere. It's the same level of quiet that you get when you're standing very near someone whispering in their ear, and it makes the often distant and monumental mountains feel close and personal. A view through the trees ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hiking the Swiss alps, you spend a lot of time in between thick conifers before breaking out above the tree line. Often quite dark and quite cold, narrow ski trails wound their back and forth up the mountain side. Y
A view through the trees ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hiking the Swiss alps, you spend a lot of time in between thick conifers before breaking out above the tree line. Often quite dark and quite cold, narrow ski trails wound their back and forth up the mountain side. You'd sometimes hear squirrels or small birds scurrying in the underbrush.
